Catching Up On “Me Time”

I know, I know.. I’ve been MIA for almost a month now. It was much easier to attempt to update this during the winter when I didn’t have quite as much going on. But I’ve been doing SO much for work recently and I’ve been trying to stay outside as much as possible with the dogs on nice days. So my dear sweet blog has been neglected.. which I kind of knew it would. Hopefully I can get myself together and motivated and actually make this blog something real, but it’s been so hard lately!

So this update is going to be a random collection of what’s been going on in my life lately..

1.) My hubby’s aunt has a habit of collecting random items.. and happened to have a very old, very large pool table in her basement. It’s a Brunswick, which is supposedly a really good brand. Needless to say, we have since become the new owners of this pool table and have been working on fixing it up for the last week or so.  We’ve finally cleaned and painted everything, now we just need to wait for the billiards place to finish everything else and come back to put it together! And yes, it’s going in our garage. We both have SUVs and they won’t fit in there together, so we decided to just stop using it as a garage and turn it in a mancave/bar for my hubby. He’s SUPER excited.

All taken apart, ready to be painted.

2.) I’ve been attempting to eat healthier. If you know me, you know I eat junk food and fried foods like there’s no tomorrow. So I’ve decided to try one new vegetable a week! So far I’ve discovered brussel sprouts, chick peas, and kale.  I can officially say I’m obsessed with brussel sprouts! Sauteed in a littleeee butter and lots of lemon pepper, yum yummmm.

3.) April Beauty Boxes! I didn’t take pictures of my Birchbox, so we’ll just have to wait for my May box. I’m going to wait until the Nail Files Friday for my Julep box. So that leaves me with.. Ipsy! April’s box had a pink theme to it. Pink bag, pink blush, pink eyeshadow, pink nail polish.. and then a non-pink hair product. I plan on trying the hair product tomorrow. I’m not a huge fan of pink eyeshadow, but the colors were pretty. Anddd I love the blush, it gives me such a pretty rosy glow 🙂 and while I haven’t used the polish yet, I love the color. As always, I’m not super in loveee with my Ipsy items, but I was definitely happy with the contents.

It all came in pretty boxes too!

4.) I received my first BzzKit! I’m going to make a separate post to give my actual review of it.. but I was super excited to receive my first box in the mail! Who doesn’t love receiving free items?!

5.) As you may know, I’m a nurse on a renal unit. Well, one of my coworkers discovered these awesome pins for our badges and she ordered a whole bunch of them so we can all have one. How cute is this little guy?! This company is super awesome and has pins of almost ANY organ. All nurses should seriously check it out 🙂

The little kidney is the actual pin.

Well, that was random but my doggies are cuddling and I need to start the laundry. Until later!

Must. Learn. To. Garden.

We moved into our house almost exactly a year ago and I vowed to start a garden this spring.. butttt I have way too much going on with work right now and it’s just not going to happen. BUT we are thinking about fixing up our landscaping a little bit and I have fallen in love with..

Container Gardens!

Seriously, they’re just too adorable. So here’s a bunch of pictures 🙂

What gardening tips do you have?

Summer, please!

I was starting to feel a little bad about neglecting my lovely blog recently.. but then I realized MANY other people are doing the same thing. Maybe it’s the winter blues? The weather here in NC is quite frustrating lately. We keep having sunny and warm days.. and then yesterday there was sleet and rain. UGH!

So my inspiration for today.. bright and summery outfits from Pinterest!

And now for some purses.. how could I resist?

Who else is excited for summer clothes?!

Friday Nail Files #7

Linking up with Fabulous But Evil and My Vickilicious Life for The Nail Files!

Today I’m wearing MAMBA by Color Club.

nail files mamba

I’m pretty sure I received this one month from Birchbox, but I’ve been SO obsessed with Julep lately that I’ve completely forgotten about this color. I was super stoked to find it in my polish bag! I love a bright, shiny red on my nails every once in awhile.. but who doesn’t? 🙂

What color are YOU wearing today?!

What I’m Doing Wednesday #4

Oh crap, it’s been a WHOLE WEEK since I updated last?! And I’ve actually been off work for over a week too.. so no excuses! EXCEPT I kind of have an excuse, because I finally painted another room in our house! The master bathroom is now a gorgeous burnt orange from Sherwin Williams called Pennywise 🙂 Go me! Unfortunately, now I really, really want to get new flooring and a new vanity put in there.. oh how I wish we could win the lottery and support my redecorating desires!

Okay, whining done… time for another edition of What I’m Doing Wednesday!

What I’m Wearing

I just liked this one, so I’m adding it.

So this is actually yesterday’s outfit. I’m returning to work tonight and currently in scrubs, so I figured that wouldn’t be very interesting! Unfortunately, this outfit isn’t very interesting either.. considering all I was doing was going grocery shopping. I think I look kind of cute though?

What I’m Obsessed With

Seriously.. MANGO SALSA. Oh my goodness, first of all (confession time).. I have a total love affair with cilantro. I mean, full on obsession. So this mango salsa was SUPER yummy and it was the perfect addition to this Jamaican Jerk Pork  🙂 I actually made a pork loin in the oven instead of the slow cooker pulled pork, but it was so, so good. It’s from this awesome website called Skinny Taste that has TONS of delicious and healthy meals.

mangosalsa

Not gonna lie, I ate it by the spoonful.

What I Bought

A Himalayan Salt Block! I actually bought this 2 weeks ago for my mom’s birthday but she just got it in the mail last week and finally got to use it this weekend. You can read more about them on this website (which is also where I purchased them).

What I Pinned – And Did!

I made THE CUTEST makeup brush holder based off a pin I saw on Pinterest! My hubby bought me these awesome makeup brushes for Christmas, but it was always such a hassle to use them because they were being stored under the sink. Now they have an adorable display right on the counter which makes them super easy to find and use! Once we figure out an actual decor for our bathroom, I might try to make a little canister with an actual design/pattern on the outside. But for right now, I seriously love this! More ideas can be found here.

March (Box) Madness

Well, if you all remember I wrote about my Julep Maven box on Friday, but today I’m here to talk about my March Birchbox and Ipsy bag! I haven’t used any of the products yet because I didn’t want to open anything before I took pictures, so there won’t be any reviews.. just a description of what’s in the box!

photo 31. Nick Chavez Beverly Hills Color-Saver Sulfate Free Shampoo ($22 full size) – This is a super gentle shampoo that’s supposed to clean your hair without stripping it of it’s moisture and color. It uses tea antioxidants and lemon/apple extracts.

2. Whish Shave Crave Shaving Cream ($20 full size) – It’s all natural and it doesn’t foam up like regular shaving creams, it’s supposed to go on like thick cream. It’s scented with blueberry, pomegranate, almond and lavender (it seriously smells SO good).

3. Madewell Nail Emery Board ($5 each) – It has a rough side and soft side – and seriously, can you ever have too many nail files??

photo 4

4. MAKE Face Primer ($30 full size) – It’s moisturizing, skin perfecting AND contains SPF 30. Honestly, I love any and all face primers.

5. MAKE Matte Finish Eyeshadow ($18 full size) – I don’t know the name of the color I received (I think it’s Cement) but it’s a medium grey and I’m super excited to use it. This eye shadow is supposedly crease-resistant and long lasting.

photo 5

Overall, I’m satisfied with this month’s box. There’s nothing that particularly pops out and makes me go “WOW!” but there’s nothing I’m really disappointed in. ((All the above descriptions were summarized from the Birchbox website. Links provided.))

1. All Ipsy bags come in a little makeup bag and this one is TOO CUTE! It’s navy blue and white with ropes and boat anchors. Adorable. This month’s theme was the Great Escape with a cute beachy, vacation theme.

2. LA Fresh Travel Lite Makeup Remover Wipes ($1.49 for 8 wipes) – This is pretty self-explanatory. And who doesn’t love makeup wipes? Enter “IPSY13” at checkout for 30% off beauty wipes until 4/15/13.

3. Juice Beauty Hydrating Mist ($22 full size) – This product is actually for your skin. The website said it’s nourishing and moisturizing. And it smells good! I’m a little excited to try this actually. Enter “GLAM20” at checkout for 20% off $30 or more until 4/15/13.

photo 1 4. GlamRX Mini Freestyle Palette ($16.50 for the Touch Up Palette) – So the mini palette I received is just a magnetic case with a mirror. On the actual website, it comes with a brightening concealer, lip balm, shine erase powder, and black eyeliner AND an empty layer below it for your little magnetic eye shadow pots. Seriously, this is adorable. I’m not impressed with my mini palette, but this one is SO CUTE! Enter “IPSY” at checkout for 20% off until 4/15/13.

5. YABY Eye Shadow Refill ($3.29 each) – I received 2 different colors – one is a dark teal and the other is a really light tan (it looks yellow in the picture). I’m not sure I’d use either color, but they’re magnetic and fit nicely in the GlamRX Palette. Enter “ipsyglam20130325” at checkout for 25% off your purchase until 4/15/13.

photo 2

So honestly, I was severely disappointed in this bag. The actual makeup bag is cute. Yeah, I’ll use the makeup wipes and I’ll probably use the hydrating mist (or at least try it), but I just didn’t feel like there was anything I really liked or couldn’t live without. So disappointed! Hopefully next month is better.  ((All links provided will take you to the actual website of the product.))

Do you have Birchbox or Ipsy subscriptions? What did you think of March’s items??

Friday Nail Files #6

Ok, so quick post because I gotta eat before work tonight.. but I really wanted to link up with Fabulous But Evil and My Vickilicious Life for the Friday Nail Files andddd share the contents of my March Julep Maven box! Unfortunately, I had a bit of a ditzy moment prior to getting my shower and took my nail polish off before taking pictures (oops). AND now I’m updating my phone so I had to be even lazier and borrow the pictures from the Julep website.

So prior to showering I had on this lovelyyy spring color called Simone 🙂 it’s described by Julep as a “soft pastel lilac opalescent shimmer.” I also had a pretty, purple glitter on my ring fingers but again, no photographic evidence 😦 I’m so ready for spring!!

The other color in my Julep box was called Debra. It’s described on the website as a “smoky taupe crème.” It’s not something I would usually wear, BUT I think with a super glossy top coat I could make it work.

Also in my Julep box was a strawberry mint lip balm which smells so yummy and an awesome, awesome, awesome hand cream. I seriously love it! It smells flowery and delicate and makes my hands so soft.

I feel so torn about these Julep boxes! I seriously love all the products I receive but sometimes I wonder if it’s a little expensive at $20/mth since I already receive Birchbox and Ipsy.. I guess we’ll see what happens!

If you have Julep – what colors did you receive this month?!

The Return of ME!

I am SO sorry for being MIA lately. I felt like I was doing so good at blogging – and I was so proud of myself! – but then the weather started spiraling downhill and raining and/or snowing for days and days. And it was so cold and dreary. And work has been absolutely insane the last month. I just felt like I needed a few weeks to relax and cuddle on the couch and have me time. But I think I’m back now and I have so much to talk about! Where oh where do I begin?

First of all, I officially have my own domain name!

http://www.lovelywanderingthoughts.com

snow

We’re getting too much of this lately.

Second, I finally caught up on everyone’s blogs.. and you guys are as awesome as ever!! I tried to like and/or comment on quite a few posts (some of you may have been bombarded with both!) but I just wanted to let ya’ll know I haven’t forgotten about you!

Third, I found this awesome recipe for Lemon Pepper Chicken Divan on Amber’s blog over at Momma In Bloom. It was so creamy and cheesy and just plain yummy! I don’t have an oven-safe skillet, so I just put it in a 9×13 Pyrex pan and it worked fine. I definitely recommend trying it out!

Fourth, my beauty products! I’ve been contemplating cancelling my Birchbox, so I didn’t bother writing anything about February’s box. I should be receiving March’s soon. I’ll discuss my Julep box on Friday (for the Friday Nail Files). And that leads me to.. my first Ipsy bag! I actually received it in February, so I’m not going to go into TONS of details – as my March bag should be arriving soon – buttt you can check out this awesome blog called Pearls and Paris and she goes into much more detail (we received the same bag!) AND gives discount codes for all the items. Unfortunately, I’m a little late to update and the codes expire tomorrow.. so get shopping!

ipsy-february

Quick review Black patent leather makeup bag – looks kind of cheap, but still cute for little items. Eye shadow pallette – the yellow looks a little too bright, but I’m willing to try it. Primer – went on super smooth and made my skin feel really soft. Mascara – I’m very, very faithful to my current mascaras but it defined my lashes nicely and didn’t get clumpy. Lash card – I have tried these things before and was not impressed, so I just threw mine out. BUT the winning item in this bagthe gel eyeliner!! I am not a fan of liquid eyeliner and I always have difficulty finding pencil liners that give me the look I want. I used a small eyeliner brush to apply the gel liner.. and I instantly fell in love! Overall, I was super impressed and the $10/mth price is pretty awesome too 😉

Fifth, my BFF from PA introduced me to this jewelry brand called Alex and Ani. They sell bracelets that are like charm bracelets – except they’re bangles! Their prices vary (some are quite expensive!), but most of them are really affordable. I’ve never been a fan of charm bracelets – they’re a little too gaudy for me – but these bangles are seriously SO cute.

And lastly, I was tagged by the lovely Mrs. Burnett for a Five Things About Me challenge and I figured.. why not?

One – I have a problem with things that don’t match or things that aren’t consistent. A few examples – I have all 4 books in the Twilight series but only one is paperback and it drives me crazy every time I look at it. I color code all my notes at work and if I write something down in blue instead of green on accident, it’ll seriously drive me nuts until I can either rewrite everything or use white-out to fix it. I can’t think of anything else right now (way too sleepy!) but you get the idea. Is this OCD-like behavior?

Two – I have baby fever to the extreme. Like I really, really, really want a baby. Most people are aware of this. (Mom – are you aware of this?!) The hubby is well aware of this and is – thankfully – on the same track as me. So yay 🙂

Three – I don’t feel like the same person I was before my grandparents died. Sometimes I don’t understand how I’m continuing to live my life without them. I know I was running away when I moved to NC. I know I did it because I couldn’t handle living in the same town they lived in. It hurt too much. Thankfully I love our home and the city we live in, but it’s sometimes hard to know I’m here because I wanted to hide from my fears.

Four – I could watch HGTV for hours and hours and hours and not get bored. Seriously! I love watching shows about people house hunting or renovating their houses or selling their houses or anything! If I even watch 2 seconds of a show, I have to watch the whole episode because I need to find out what happens! I get drawn in so easily!

Five – I got a tattoo my senior year in college. It’s a red rose on my right hip bone. Yes, it hurt. No, I don’t regret it. Yes, I still love it every time I look at it. And yes, I sometimes contemplate getting a second one but I don’t know if I have the guts to do it!

Feel free to join in and write 5 things about yourself on your blog – just don’t forget to tag me! 😉

Friday Nail Files #5

((Linking up with Tara from Fabulous But Evil and Vicki from My Vickilicious Life))

So I had off work for several days in a row – woohoo! – and I was able to use some of my gorgeous new nail polish I’ve been receiving lately. Thanks to Julep and Zoya! Unfortunately my nails are no longer pretty because I’m back to work, but I took some pictures of them earlier in the week! And now I get to share them with you guys! 🙂

photo (10)

I used Julep Helen on most of my nails (a smoky pastel lavender creme) and Zoya Tru on my accent nails (a dark purple with orange and red toned glitter). Unfortunately the pastel purple doesn’t photograph really well and it looks more like a tan/beige/neutral shade. But it’s seriously so pretty in person!

Friday Nail Files #4

Even though I only got my first Julep Maven box a few weeks ago.. I already received my second one in the mail! When I received my first Julep box,  I was impressed, but only so so. I wasn’t sure if it was worth it for me to spend $20 every month to receive it. Especially when I pay $10/month for Birchbox and I finally got off the wait list for Ipsy which is another $10/month. Well this month as made me fall in love with Julep. I’m even debating cancelling my Birchbox now! On that note.. it’s time for the Friday Nail Files!

((Linking up with Tara from Fabulous But Evil and Vicki from My Vickilicious Life))

This month’s Julep box is seriously awesome!

photo (6)

And two chocolates!!

1. A pocket sized eyelash curler – for eyelash obsessed people like myself.

2. Oxygen Nail Treatment – they call it “makeup for your nails.” The package says it “creates high gloss coverage and strong, healthy growth.” I already tried it – you can see it in the pictures below on my nails – and I love it. It makes my nails look glossy and it has a very, very light pink color to it. And I’m pretty sure I can get away with wearing it to work! 😉

3. Freedom Polymer Top Coat – The package says it “goes on like a polish, performs like a gel.” I have off a few days next week and I’m super excited to try it! It says you can allow it to dry naturally or you can hold it under a 60-watt bulb for longer-lasting results. I desperately miss getting my gel manicures, so maybe this will satisfy me on my weekends off.

4. And then TWO NAIL POLISHES! The first color is Claudette – described as a “smoky brick red creme” and the second color is Helen – described as a “smoky pastel lavender creme.” Both colors look awesome, but I think I’m the most excited about the lavender color.

I’m seriously falling in love with Julep. I made my beauty profile through them when I signed up and they titled me as being “Classic with a Twist” and so far they’ve been spot on with every single color they send me. (This month is even more awesome than last month!)  ANDDD this is directly from their website – “Julep Nail Color is “4-free” and does not contain formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, toluene, or DBP.”  Sounds perfect to me 🙂

Link up and show off your manicures!
