What I’m Doing Wednesday #3

Welcome to yet another installment of What I’m Doing Wednesday!

What I’m Wearing

Linking up with The Pleated Poppy and Life as Mrs. Burnett for What I Wore Wednesday!

striped shirt

I honestly have no idea where I got half my clothes from (how do people remember every single item?!) but I somehow remember everything about this outfit except for the jeans.

((Striped shirt – Macy’s, Cami – Aeropostale, Boots – Ninewest, Necklace – Body Central))

What I’m Reading

I’m STILL working on reading the entire Gossip Girl series. I’m currently on book #10 – “Would I Lie To You.”  I LOVED the TV series so much, it’s just killing me to keep reading this when it’s almost nothing like the show. I guess I should’ve realized this beforehand. BUT I’m going to keep reading it because that’s just how I am.

What Makes Me Go “Awwww”

Okay, so this is a completely random category but seriously, look at this picture of my babies! SO CUTE!!

dogs in crate

Snoozing in the same crate!

What I Made For Supper

Tonight I tried a new recipe – Chicken, Chorizo and Tortilla Soup by Rachael Ray. It was definitely a winner! Although, I made a few changes —  (1.) I used shredded chicken instead of bite sized pieces. (2.) I didn’t add the hot sauce because I wasn’t sure how hot the chorizo would be. I think it was the perfect heat level without it, but everyone’s different! (3.) I accidentally bought chicken broth, instead of chicken stock, so it needed a little extra flavoring. I just added half a packet of taco seasoning. (4.) Next time I won’t use the potatoes, I don’t feel like they were really necessary. Seriously, try this recipe!! So good!

chicken chorizo soup

It looks pretty too!

What I’m Baking

My mom bought me a mini donut maker for my birthday on Monday (yeah, she’s awesome like that) and I used it for the first time today! I didn’t feel like going to the store to buy anything fancy so I just made the basic donut batter and used granulated sugar and powdered sugar as the toppings. I’d say I did pretty good for my first try!

What I’m Laughing At

I’m laughing at myself today! Have you ever seen pictures of perfectly vacuumed carpets with perfect, symmetrical vacuum lines?

Well, I vacuumed and shampooed my bedroom carpet earlier in the week. No, a blind and drunk person did not do that. I don’t even know how it got that way! I don’t remember walking in any circles, but apparently I did.

Doggy footprints everywhere!

It’s OK Thursday #3

((Linking up with Neely at A Complete Waste of Makeup and Amber at Brunch with Amber for It’s OK Thursday))

It’s OK..

That I did absolutely nothing last weekend and I’ve been slacking ever since. I have so much going on with work that I needed a few days to recover and recharge my brain. And I’ve been slacking in my blogging too.. I’m sorry!

It’s OK..

That I let my husband take care of all the maintenance stuff with my car. I cook, clean, do laundry, take care of the house, etc.. the least he could do it take care of my car for me!

It’s OK..

That I have to do laundry in the middle of the week because I only have 3 outfits for work and I picked up a night of overtime this week.. meaning I need 4 outfits. I really need to go shopping for work clothes..

It’s OK..

That my living room looks like this on a regular basis. Somehow my cute, little, furry devils manage to find hidden stuffed dog toys and promptly destroy them all over my house. I just cleaned up an identical mess on Monday.. and it’s only Thursday!

photo (5)

She doesn’t like posing for pictures.

It’s OK..

That one of the cords for our blinds broke over the weekend and we have yet to replace it.. so the dogs now have to share a couch cushion in order to get the maximum amount of sunlight during the afternoons.

photo (4)

Who couldn’t love those faces?

It’s NOT OK..

That one of our NEW windows – that we replaced in October – started leaking last night during the storm and allowed a huge puddle of rainwater to gather on our windowsill, the carpet, and saturated the wall at the top of the window. UGH. Thankfully, the window people are currently here fixing it.

30 Day “What If” Challenge

Day 18 :  What if you had to choose between love and no money or money and no love for the rest of your life, which would you choose?

Oh, this one’s so easy! I would definitely pick love and no money. Yes, it would be terrible to not have any money – and I’d be constantly freaking out – but it’d be MUCH more terrible to not have any love. I’m sure it’d be awesome to buy anything and everything I could possibly ever want.. but how enjoyable would that be if you didn’t have anyone to share it with?

What would you choose?

What I’ve Learned About Having Two Dogs

((First of all, let me say this – I think I jinxed myself by writing yesterday’s post about being a nurse because last night was TERRIBLE at work. Almost exactly like I wrote. Ugh. But stay tuned for Part 2 in the future!))

So today I’m going to talk a little bit about what it’s like having two dogs. And why we decided to take the big step and get a second one. Let’s start at the beginning..

We purchased Roxie – a Boston terrier – from a breeder. We picked her out when she was only like 3 or 4 weeks old and then had to wait until she was 8 weeks old to bring her home. Prior to deciding on a Boston, I read tons of information about different breeds. I read dog training books. I did research. I STUDIED!! So for some reason when we finally got her home, I seemed to forget everything and just spoil her rotten – she was just so cute!!! – and here we are. I have a spoiled rotten little demon dog.

roxie5

Fast forward almost 2 1/2 years later – DH (dear hubby, as he will from now on be referred) and I were living in our first house. We decided Roxie needed a friend, a playmate. So we looked on Craigslist and found a picture of a Boxer who needs to be rescued. Enter Layla. She was about 10-15 lbs underweight, ribs were showing, covered in tics, and she was used for breeding and had the saggiest dog nipples I’ve ever seen. Basically, love at first sight.

layla5

Let’s compare dogs..

Roxie

Just turned 3 years old. Weighs approximately 15 lbs. Is a pure bred Boston terrier from a breeder. Enjoys playing with tennis balls, laying in the sun, cuddling under blankets, barking out the window, licking anything and everything, giving kisses on command, eating snacks. Bad habits include barking out the window in the middle of the night, peeing on the carpet in the bedroom, does not like being on a leash, refusing to go outside in the rain, playing in mud puddles, getting into the garbage in the bathroom, stealing people’s underwear, destroying stuffed toys all over the floor. Hates plastic bags.

roxie1

Layla

The vet estimates her to be between 2 and 4 years old. Weighs approximately 55 lbs. Is a pure bred Boxer (as far as we’re aware), who was rescued from a puppy mill. Enjoys laying in the sun, chewing on bones, going for walks, chasing frogs, looking out the window, playing tug of war, sniffing everything, walking backwards, sleeping in her own doggie bed. Bad habits include drooling everywhere and barking at everything. Hates bathtime.

Finally, let’s get into the lessons I’ve learned..

1. Having two dogs is awesome because they can play with each other half the time and not drive you crazy 24/7.

2. Traveling with two dogs is much, much harder than just one. And finding people to dog-sit for you is also much harder.

3. A 55lb Boxer is capable of destroying toys much faster than a 15lb Boston terrier.

4. Walking two dogs at the same time is a very difficult task. (Thank goodness we have a fenced in yard.)

5. Cuddling with two dogs is so much better than only cuddling one dog.

6. Giving a 55lb dog a bath is much more challenging than giving a 15lb dog a bath.

7. Larger dogs don’t need to go potty as frequently – yay for bigger bladders!

And the biggest lesson I’ve learned..

The bad dog will teach the good dog bad behaviors, but the good dog will not teach the bad dog good behaviors.

Basically, what I mean is this – when we first got Layla, she was so afraid of everything and so, so shy. Roxie has taught her to bark at everything, beg for food at the table, refuse to go outside in the rain, and destroy toys all over the floor. Meanwhile, Layla has taught Roxie.. nothing. Layla is still learning how to be a dog and how to play (we think she was previously abused), so it’s quite different watching her grow up than it was with Roxie.

The moral of this story? Well, there really isn’t one. This wasn’t actually a lesson on raising dogs (what do I know anyway? lol). Despite some of their bad habits – my dog are my little furry babies and I wouldn’t trade them for anything.

Do you have more than one dog? What changes did you notice when you went from one to more than one?

30 Day “What If” Challenge – Day 9

30 Day “What If” Challenge

Day 9 :  What if you could commit any crime and get away with it, what would you do?

Hmm I’d probably rob a bank. As long as no one would get hurt and I wouldn’t get caught – who wouldn’t want to get a little extra money? Or even a million dollars. If I could do that and get away with it, I’d definitely donate some money to charity.. just to ease my guilty conscience. And then I’d go shopping and buy lots and lots of shoes. And Coach purses. And dog toys for my furry babies. Oh, and pay off my house. And oh goodness, I could go on and on..

What crime would you commit?

It’s OK Thursday #1

Today is my first time linking up with Amber at MommaInBloom for It’s OK Thursday. I seriously love the idea of it and I’m super excited to be participating in it. Thanks Amber for the awesome idea!

It’s OK..

That I bought a Brita water filter and pitcher – even though I really don’t need one – because it was only 50 cents. Seriously, who could pass up such an awesome deal?

brita

It’s OK..

That I seriously plan on making quesadillas every single day because my mom bought me this awesome quesadilla maker. It actually puts little indents on the tortilla shell so you know where to cut for even slices!

quesomaker

It’s OK..

That our yard is still looking a little rough. We removed a huge playset with mulch surrounding it from the back our yard a few months ago and then got the whole thing fertilized and treated to kill weeds and then had grass seed planted. Yes, I know everything is almost dead because it’s winter, but it seriously looks SO much better already. I can’t wait to see what it looks like in the spring and summer!

yard

Almost there!

It’s OK..

That our once gorgeous Christmas tree is now looking droopy and depressed. I realize it’s a little late to still have it up but I wanted my mom to see it and then I didn’t want to spend time taking it down when I could’ve been spending time doing something more fun with her. So it’s still up.. and it looks so sad.. but it’ll be taken down this weekend, I promise!

tree

Sad tree.

It’s OK..

That our 6 month old sectional has two saggy cushions because our dogs like to lay on top of the cushions and look out the windows. I like them to be happy and comfortable and they seem to enjoy the couch as much as we do.. so I’m completely fine with it! And we can replace cushionsright?

dogs

How could you get mad at them?!

It’s OK..

That I’m seriously obsessed with trashy reality tv shows. I can’t even deny it to anyone because it’s pretty much all I watch.. along with other semi-trashy tv shows like Gossip Girl and Desperate Housewives. At this very moment I’m watching Snooki & J-Woww. Seriously. I would almost be embarrassed.. if I wasn’t too busy enjoying myself watching this show.

So there you go! Hope you had a super awesome time and don’t forget to check out MommaInBloom!

30 Day “What If” Challenge

Day 5 :  What If you could ask God a question, what would it be?

Ugh, I’m sorry, I’m just not going to answer this question.
Challenge questions will continue tomorrow, I promise!

Oh, What A New Year

Oh gracious. I promise I’m not neglecting you my faithful readers (there has to be some of you.. right?!). I wish I had more time to update, but I’ve been way too busy being sick (I think I’m finally better now), working, and cleaning like a crazy person because I was preparing for my mom’s arrival. She arrived on Thursday and is staying until the 10th so I can’t guarantee a ton of updates this week.. sorry!

sign

She really, really wanted a sign.

We had a billion days of rain last week so on Saturday when I took the dogs out after working all night.. my precious little Roxie decided to lay on her belly and pull herself through piles of mud. Yep, through the mud. She was quite pleased with herself.. until she realized that it meant I would be giving her a bubbly bath. At 8am. After I worked 12 hours. UGH! But look how cute she is 🙂

roxie

Muddy feet.

I’m working on organizing my life and my first project was using my awesome new makeup organizer that I talked about here and that you can purchase here. I seriously love it! It’s meant to be placed on top of the counter, but I have a serious issue with things cluttering my counters.. so I made room for it under my cabinet and it’s beautiful! I seriously love using it and now I need to go out and buy more makeup because the whole back half of it is literally empty.

cabinet2

Perfection!

Today is Playoff Sunday.. let’s go Redskins! My mom and I made a feast with tons of yummy foods and most importantly, we made Cranberry Pomegranate Sangria! You can find the awesome recipe here which I found on Pinterest, of course. It’s seriously amazing. Unfortunately, the Redskins appear to be losing and will most likely have lost by the time I end up publishing this. My dear hubby is not very happy.

sangria1

Pot ‘o Sangria.

So I guess I’m going to finish this update with my New Year’s Resolutions.

1. To become a better, more successful blogger. I want to become more involved in the awesome WordPress blogging community and participate in daily activities. Or maybe even make my own daily activities/topics to blog about! I have a seriously hard time updating when I have to work, so I can’t promise daily updates, but I hope to update at least 3 times a week. One of my favorite things is “It’s OK Thursday” by an old coworker of mine. You can read her blog here.

2. To become more involved at work. I’ve already begun working on this goal, go me!! I’ve been working as a floor nurse for 3 1/2 years now and I feel like it’s time to start working on my career. I’ve agreed to be a preceptor to a senior nursing student for an entire semester (which should be starting in the next few weeks). I’ve agreed to take a charge nurse class. I signed up for an ACLS class. I’ve signed up to be on a committee to help educate other nurses on new nursing skills. I feel like I’m heading in the right direction, especially because education is something else I’m very passionate about.

3. To become more organized in my life. Pinterest exists for a reason!! I’ve pinned a billion different ways to clean and organize my life.. now it’s time I get started! I’ve already begun working on this goal. Go me! My next task is figuring out how to make my closet a little less chaotic.. at least until we can have someone come in and customize/rebuild my walk-in closet for me. I also hope to FINALLY paint some more rooms in this big ol’ house. I’ve only succeeded in painting the living room, the downstairs half bath, and the upstairs guest bathroom.. and we’ve lived here since May!

cabinet3

I have way too many beauty products.

I think I’ll just leave it at that for now. Wish me luck!

And now something to make you giggle.. that I found on Pinterest.. of course.

pinterest

Merry (Belated) Christmas!

Ugh. So I broke my promise to you guys. I’m sorry! What kind of blogger am I that I go away for a week and a half AND THEN I don’t update for several days after I get home! Well, I seemed to have come down with yet another sinus/respiratory cold.. so I’ve been laying around and doing nothing but reading my Kindle. Which means that my house is currently in a state of disaster and my mom will be here in exactly ONE WEEK so I better get my life together!

Anyway, how was everyone’s Christmas?! Did Santa give you everything you wanted??

My first wish that came true was spending a week and a half in PA with our families and finally getting to enjoy time with them. We haven’t spent any substantial amount of time in PA since our wedding last October, so it was super awesome to see everyone. One of the best parts.. my mom’s homemade cookies! NOMS!

photo

Also, my mom and I attempted to make deviled eggs. “Watch out for the paprika, it comes out fast.”

546587_645269532997_646431347_n

I convinced the hubby to let us give the dogs their gifts on Christmas Eve.. they got tons of stuffed toys (to eventually destroy and scatter cotton all over the house) and lots of yummy dog treats. Roxie – our Boston Terrier – loves tennis balls, so we stocked up on those. And Layla – our Boxer, who’s a rescue – finally got her own doggie bed! She’s been sleeping in it every night! I took some videos of them playing with their toys but I haven’t quite figured out how to insert them yet.. I’ll keep working on it!

541907_645875798037_1460653001_n

And then as for me.. well I got (almost) everything on my list! Santa was SUPER AWESOME to me this year.

1. A carpet steam cleaner and shampooer. Yes, I seriously ask for this and yes, I’m seriously super excited to use it this weekend!

12618_646006206697_436367450_n

2. A super awesome printer that also prints pictures. I haven’t had a chance to use it yet, but supposedly I can print WIRELESSLY from my phone! I take way too many pictures on my phone and this printer is supposed to be one of the best!

photo2

3. An awesome countertop makeup organizer and makeup brush set! Can’t wait to show pictures of the final, organized product! You can buy the makeup organizer here and the makeup brush set here.

photo3

4. Another thing I got (which hasn’t been delivered yet) is the complete Gossip Girl book series. The series finale just aired on TV and now I’m super stoked to read the whole series and see how it compares! Hopefully it’s equally awesome!

reg_1024.GossipGirl.mh.120412

From the series finale.

There’s still one thing else that I wished for.. it just hasn’t happened yet. Keep your fingers crossed for me, please.

Holidaze

This cloudy, cold, windy, dark weather has been KICKING MY BUTT. So here I am blogging in the attempt to keep myself awake since I have to work tomorrow night and can’t be going to bed at 10pm!

First – TV show updates! – The hubby and I finally watched the mid season finale of The Walking Dead – wooo, things are getting crazy! Then after he went to bed (way early because of not feeling good) I got myself caught up on Teen Mom 2, Gossip Girl (oh my god!!) and now Toddlers & Tiaras. I can’t even begin to talk about how crazy some of these shows are getting! Mainly Gossip Girl. I’m pretty sure I still have chills. Wowwww.

So anyway, the main reason behind this update is Christmas and the holidays! Or holidaze – considering my current mindset. My family is not the type to have elaborate or expensive traditions. Honestly, I can’t even think of too many. We would always have a huge family dinner on Christmas Eve, but other than that.. I can only think of two traditions that we did every year.

One – Christmas pajamas. On Christmas Eve, everyone gets a new pair of pajamas that they’re supposed to wear that night so when we wake up to open presents on Christmas Day.. we all have our awesome new pj’s on! I saw a pin on Pinterest about doing this when you have children – you can include pajamas and favorite snacks for everyone and then a holiday movie to watch before going to bed on Christmas Eve. I love it! Also, I found this.

001

Our new pajamas

Two – the pickle ornament. I actually had to look this up on Wikipedia because I never really knew the meaning behind it. We just always had a pickle ornament and we always had so much fun looking for and hiding the ornament. Click here to read the meaning behind this tradition.

And this year I’ve decided we’re going to start a new holiday tradition for OUR family. It’s our first holiday in our first house so I figured it’s the perfect time to start finding new traditions. Since we don’t currently have any nice or original ornaments, we’re going to buy a new ornament every year to add to our tree. This way we can start getting rid of the cheap, crappy ones from Walmart and Target and start building our ornament collection. As of right now, our first (tradition) ornament is the pickle.. but we’ll see if I find something else before Christmas because our pickle was only $5 from Target lol

002

Our pickle ornament

Well I guess I’m done because it’s been 3 hours and I can’t seem to focus and I have a furry little dog sleeping on my left arm. It’s quiteee difficult to type with one hand!

What traditions do you do every year?

Yawn.

Today I am just plain exhausted. Seriously. I’m procrastinating with making supper even though I better hurry it up because hubby will be home soon and I work tonight! So yes, no post today. Except this. Something that I’m seriously in love with right now.. DOG SHAMING. It’s where people post pictures of their dogs with signs of stuff they should be ashamed about. For some reason it makes me laugh hysterically.  So I’m sharing this joy with you all 🙂

276056652130109059_MLzxFm8Z_c

And here are some dog shaming websites for your viewing pleasure! Here and here!

And yes, I did originally discover this on Pinterest. Obviously.

Sometimes You Just Need To Be Random

Well, it’s been quite a busy few days for me so this update is going to be quite random.  There’s so much I want to share! First, the bake sale was a huge success at work – we made almost $300! Go us!

Earlier in the week I had my performance evaluation with the director of my floor – all good reviews, a 2% raise (not much, but eh), signed up for an ACLS class, agreed to start training for charge nurse AND I agreed to be a preceptor to a senior nursing student for a whole semester starting in a few weeks. 2013 is sounding like it’s going to be awesome!

Then I forgot to share a recipe for a super delicious slow cooker chicken taco soup that I made last week. Surprisingly, this recipe did NOT come from Pinterest. I know, I know.. recipes from other websites?! How old fashioned of me! But seriously, I didn’t really change this recipe at all – I just used an extra can of black beans and I used a can of chicken broth instead of beer because we didn’t have any in the fridge. And it was SO SO SO GOOD! I added tons of cilantro because I’m obsessed and it was amazing. It didn’t even need sour cream or cheese but that’s up to you.

001

NOMS!!

003

This is what I added on top.. Sooo yummy. Try them with fajitas too!

Friday night at work was TERRIBLE so I went out for some early morning drinks and breakfast with one of my coworkers (when you work night shift, it’s totally acceptable to drink alcohol at 8am – right?). There’s not really a story here, I just wanted to show some pictures of FALSE ADVERTISING and everyone can realize how upset I was when I paid $7 for this piece of cheesecake that was not at all what I was expecting.

photo3

This is what I thought I was ordering..

photo2

This is what I got.. uh.. no.

Saturday night I went out with some friends – which resulted in me being hungover all day Sunday. Which resulted in me not cooking, cleaning, doing laundry or grocery shopping like I was supposed to. Bad decision making skills. Ugh. When will I ever realize I can’t party like I’m 21 anymore?

photo

All cute and ready to go!

And then last and most importantly, Sunday was my Princess Roxie’s 3rd birthday! I can’t believe how big she’s gotten! When I think about when we brought home this cute little 2 1/2 pound black and white ball of fur.. I can’t believe it’s the same dog that we have right now!

photo4

Surprise presents!

Anyway, that’s it for now. Talk about being random and babbling nonsense – but that’s the way my life is so I feel like it’s only appropriate to update in the same manner. Happy Monday everyone!
