Summer, please!

I was starting to feel a little bad about neglecting my lovely blog recently.. but then I realized MANY other people are doing the same thing. Maybe it’s the winter blues? The weather here in NC is quite frustrating lately. We keep having sunny and warm days.. and then yesterday there was sleet and rain. UGH!

So my inspiration for today.. bright and summery outfits from Pinterest!

And now for some purses.. how could I resist?

Who else is excited for summer clothes?!

What I’m Doing Wednesday #4

Oh crap, it’s been a WHOLE WEEK since I updated last?! And I’ve actually been off work for over a week too.. so no excuses! EXCEPT I kind of have an excuse, because I finally painted another room in our house! The master bathroom is now a gorgeous burnt orange from Sherwin Williams called Pennywise ūüôā Go me! Unfortunately, now I really, really want to get new flooring and a new vanity put in there.. oh how I wish we could win the lottery and support my redecorating desires!

Okay, whining done… time for another edition of What I’m Doing Wednesday!

What I’m Wearing

I just liked this one, so I’m adding it.

So this is actually yesterday’s outfit. I’m returning to work tonight and currently in scrubs, so I figured that wouldn’t be very interesting! Unfortunately, this outfit isn’t very interesting either.. considering all I was doing was going grocery shopping. I think I look kind of cute though?

What I’m Obsessed With

Seriously.. MANGO SALSA. Oh my goodness, first of all (confession time).. I have a total love affair with cilantro. I mean, full on obsession. So this mango salsa was SUPER yummy and it was the perfect addition to this Jamaican Jerk Pork¬† ūüôā I actually made a pork loin in the oven instead of the slow cooker pulled pork, but it was so, so good. It’s from this awesome website called Skinny Taste¬†that has TONS of delicious¬†and healthy meals.

mangosalsa

Not gonna lie, I ate it by the spoonful.

What I Bought

A¬†Himalayan¬†Salt Block! I actually bought this 2 weeks ago for my mom’s birthday but she just got it in the mail last week and finally got to use it this weekend. You can read more about them on this website (which is also where I purchased them).

What I Pinned – And Did!

I made THE CUTEST makeup brush holder based off a pin I saw on Pinterest! My hubby bought me these awesome makeup brushes for Christmas, but it was always such a hassle to use them because they were being stored under the sink. Now they have an adorable display right on the counter which makes them super easy to find and use! Once we figure out an actual decor for our bathroom, I might try to make a little canister with an actual design/pattern on the outside. But for right now, I seriously love this! More ideas can be found here.

What I’m Doing Wednesday #3

Welcome to yet another installment of What I’m Doing Wednesday!

What I’m Wearing

Linking up with The Pleated Poppy and Life as Mrs. Burnett for What I Wore Wednesday!

striped shirt

I honestly have no idea where I got half my clothes from (how do people remember every single item?!) but I somehow remember everything about this outfit except for the jeans.

What I’m Reading

I’m STILL working on reading the entire Gossip Girl series. I’m currently on book #10 – “Would I Lie To You.” ¬†I LOVED the TV series so much, it’s just killing me to keep reading this when it’s almost nothing like the show. I guess I should’ve realized this beforehand. BUT I’m going to keep reading it because that’s just how I am.

What Makes Me Go “Awwww”

Okay, so this is a completely random category but seriously, look at this picture of my babies! SO CUTE!!

Snoozing in the same crate!

What I Made For Supper

Tonight I tried a new recipe –¬†Chicken, Chorizo and Tortilla Soup by Rachael Ray. It was definitely a winner! Although, I made a few changes — ¬†(1.) I used shredded chicken instead of bite sized pieces. (2.) I didn’t add the hot sauce because I wasn’t sure how hot the chorizo would be. I think it was the perfect heat level without it, but everyone’s different! (3.) I accidentally bought chicken broth, instead of chicken stock, so it needed a little extra flavoring. I just added half a packet of taco seasoning. (4.) Next time I won’t use the potatoes, I don’t feel like they were really necessary. Seriously, try this recipe!! So good!

chicken chorizo soup

It looks pretty too!

What I’m Baking

My mom bought me a mini donut maker for my birthday on Monday (yeah, she’s awesome like that) and I used it for the first time today! I didn’t feel like going to the store to buy anything fancy so I just made the basic donut batter and used granulated sugar and powdered sugar as the toppings. I’d say I did pretty good for my first try!

What I’m Laughing At

I’m laughing at myself today! Have you ever seen pictures of perfectly vacuumed carpets with perfect, symmetrical vacuum lines?

Well, I vacuumed and shampooed my bedroom carpet earlier in the week. No, a blind and drunk person did not do that. I don’t even know how it got that way! I don’t remember walking in any circles, but apparently I did.

Doggy footprints everywhere!

The Return of ME!

I am SO sorry for being MIA lately. I felt like I was doing so good at blogging – and I was so proud of myself! – but then the weather started spiraling downhill and raining and/or snowing for days and days. And it was so cold and dreary. And work has been absolutely insane the last month. I just felt like I needed a few weeks to relax and cuddle on the couch and have me time. But I think I’m back now and I have so much to talk about! Where oh where do I begin?

First of all, I officially have my own domain name!

http://www.lovelywanderingthoughts.com

snow

We’re getting too much of this lately.

Second, I finally caught up on everyone’s blogs.. and you guys are as awesome as ever!! I tried to like and/or comment on quite a few posts (some of you may have been bombarded with both!) but I just wanted to let ya’ll know I haven’t forgotten about you!

Third, I found this awesome recipe for Lemon Pepper Chicken Divan on Amber’s blog over at Momma In Bloom. It was so creamy and cheesy and just plain yummy! I don’t have an oven-safe skillet, so I just put it in a 9×13 Pyrex pan and it worked fine. I definitely recommend trying it out!

Fourth, my beauty products! I’ve been contemplating cancelling my Birchbox, so I didn’t bother writing anything about February’s box. I should be receiving March’s soon. I’ll discuss my Julep box on Friday (for the Friday Nail Files). And that leads me to.. my first Ipsy bag! I actually received it in February, so I’m not going to go into TONS of details – as my March bag should be arriving soon – buttt you can check out this awesome blog called Pearls and Paris¬†and she goes into much more detail (we received the same bag!) AND gives discount codes for all the items. Unfortunately, I’m a little late to update and the codes expire tomorrow.. so get shopping!

ipsy-february

Quick review Black patent leather makeup bag – looks kind of cheap, but still cute for little items. Eye shadow pallette – the yellow looks a little too bright, but I’m willing to try it. Primer – went on super smooth and made my skin feel really soft. Mascara – I’m very, very faithful to my current mascaras but it defined my lashes nicely and didn’t get clumpy. Lash card – I have tried these things before and was not impressed, so I just threw mine out. BUT the winning item in this bagthe gel eyeliner!! I am not a fan of liquid eyeliner and I always have difficulty finding pencil liners that give me the look I want. I used a small eyeliner brush to apply the gel liner.. and I instantly fell in love! Overall, I was super impressed and the $10/mth price is pretty awesome too ūüėČ

Fifth, my BFF from PA introduced me to this jewelry brand called Alex and Ani. They sell bracelets that are like charm bracelets – except they’re bangles! Their prices vary (some are quite expensive!), but most of them are really affordable. I’ve never been a fan of charm bracelets – they’re a little too gaudy for me – but these bangles are seriously SO cute.

And lastly, I was tagged by the lovely Mrs. Burnett for a Five Things About Me challenge and I figured.. why not?

One – I have a problem with things that don’t match or things that aren’t consistent. A few examples – I have all 4 books in the Twilight series but only one is paperback and it drives me crazy every time I look at it. I color code all my notes at work and if I write something down in blue instead of green on accident, it’ll seriously drive me nuts until I can either rewrite everything or use white-out to fix it. I can’t think of anything else right now (way too sleepy!) but you get the idea. Is this OCD-like behavior?

Two – I have baby fever to the extreme. Like I really, really, really want a baby. Most people are aware of this. (Mom – are you aware of this?!) The hubby is well aware of this and is – thankfully – on the same track as me. So yay ūüôā

Three – I don’t feel like the same person I was before my grandparents died. Sometimes I don’t understand how I’m continuing to live my life without them. I know I was running away when I moved to NC. I know I did it because I couldn’t handle living in the same town they lived in. It hurt too much. Thankfully I love our home and the city we live in, but it’s sometimes hard to know I’m here because I wanted to hide from my fears.

Four – I could watch HGTV for hours and hours and hours and not get bored. Seriously! I love watching shows about people house hunting or renovating their houses or selling their houses or anything! If I even watch 2 seconds of a show, I have to watch the whole episode because I need to find out what happens! I get drawn in so easily!

Five – I got a tattoo my senior year in college. It’s a red rose on my right hip bone. Yes, it hurt. No, I don’t regret it. Yes, I still love it every time I look at it. And yes, I sometimes contemplate getting a second one but I don’t know if I have the guts to do it!

Feel free to join in and write 5 things about yourself on your blog – just don’t forget to tag me! ūüėČ

What I’m Doing Wednesday #2

Woohoo, it’s Wednesday! HUMP DAY! And here’s what I’m doing today..

What I’m Reading

“You’re the One That I Want,” which is book #6 in the Gossip Girl series! As I mentioned last week, I’m reading the entire GG book series. It’s still not as good as the show.. but it’s definitely keeping me entertained.

gg6

Book #6

What I’m Missing

PENNSYLVANIA and SNOW! Ahhh. My mom sent me these pictures this morning and it made me so homesick. Don’t get me wrong, I love living in North Carolina.. but sometimes a girl just wants a winter wonderland!

snow

A Winter Wonderland!

What I’m NOT Loving

Bleh.. this Sleepytime Tea I bought for my Keurig. It has way too many weird flavors going on – and I’m definitely a dark and strong tea person, not a herbal, minty tea person.

tea

Not my cup of tea.

What I’m Watching

The hubby and I have started watching American Horror Story (Season 1) on Netflix. We’re only up to episode 6, but it’s getting better and better. I was really hesitant during the first few episodes – I’m telling you, this show is WEIRD – but it’s growing on me. So I guess we found another show to watch together!

And now.. dun dun dun.. time for another edition of What I Wore Wednesday – while linking up with The Pleated Poppy and Mrs. Burnett ūüôā

Unfortunately, I have to work tonight.. so my outfit is less than exciting.

Uh, yes my eyes are closed.

30 Day “What If” Challenge – Day 9

30 Day “What If” Challenge

Day 9 :  What if you could commit any crime and get away with it, what would you do?

Hmm I’d probably rob a bank. As long as no one would get hurt and I wouldn’t get caught – who wouldn’t want to get a little extra money? Or even a million dollars. If I could do that and get away with it, I’d definitely donate some money to charity.. just to ease my guilty conscience. And then I’d go shopping and buy lots and lots of shoes. And Coach purses. And dog toys for my furry babies. Oh, and pay off my house. And oh goodness, I could go on and on..

What crime would you commit?

Monday Already?

Well, I didn’t update yesterday for two reasons..

1. I was lazy.

2. Date night with the hubby!

So with that being said, I ran 800 errands today and decided to make fajitas for supper. Fajitas are definitely a favorite in our household – and they’re super, super easy to make.

fajitas1

Chicken, onions and peppers for the main stuff.
Tomatoes and cilantro for pico de gallo.

fajitas3

These tortilla strips are #thebomb.

And then the most important part – THE SAUCE. This stuff is seriously amazing! I always make sure to shake it up really well, because all the seasoning is at the bottom of the packet so you gotta make sure you scoop all the good stuff out.

fajitas2

Oh, heavenly sauce.

fajitas4

NOMS!

Lastly – the pico de gallo! I’ve pretty much perfected my recipe, but I don’t really have measurements for the ingredients because you just add everything to taste. Diced tomatoes, garlic (minced really, really small), cilantro, salt, pepper, and lime juice.¬†You could also just add garlic powder if you don’t have fresh garlic. And then let it sit in the fridge for about 15 minutes. (I prefer mine to be cold – for the contrast in temperature – so I always make sure my tomatoes are in the fridge for awhile before I even make it).

fajitas5

Yummy, yummy pico.

((I forgot to take a picture of the completed meal because it smelled so, so good and I couldn’t wait to eat!))

In other awesome news – I received my January Birchbox today!

birchbox1

birchbox3

Face cream x2, shampoo, perfume, highlighter/blush in one, and lash lengthening serum – all for $10!

30 Day “What If” Challenge – Day 8

Day 8 : What if you could choose how you were going to die, what would you choose your death to be?

Well, honestly, I think this question is kind of silly. Would anyone really want to die a painful death? Hopefully I have many, many, MANY more years left, but if I had to choose, I guess I’d just choose to die in my sleep. Peacefully, without pain. Simple enough.

What would you choose?

While The Husband’s Away..

The wife will organize.

Yes, it’s true. My husband went out for the night for a friend’s birthday and I opted to stay home.. and CLEAN. Well, to be more exact, to stay home and organize my closet. It took me way longer than I thought it would and I didn’t even completely finish the job, but I’ll post some pictures so you can see my awesome work in progress ūüôā I’m thinking I would love to paint it purple.. and then add black and white and silver/glittery accents. Because you know what? It’s my closet and my space and I don’t have to share! Woohoo!

So on another note, I’m constantly trying to come up with different things to write about and I’ve decided that once a week I’m going to come up with a list of my Top Ten Favorite Things. It might be foods.. or makeup brands.. or products.. or who knows what. And it won’t always be on the same day, just whenever I feel like coming up with a random list. Why did I choose this? Well, I’m sitting here catching up on my DVR’d shows and I realize I have way too many shows set to record and saved up in my list. Like way, way too many.

So for Week 1 of my Top Ten Favorite Things.. in no particular order:

My Top Ten Guilty Pleasure  Shows

1.  Underemployed on MTV (currently watching!)
2.  Vanderpump Rules on Bravo (starring Lisa Vanderpump of RHOBH!)
3.  Desperate Housewives (watching on Netflix)
4. ¬†Gossip Girl (so sad that it’s over!)
5.  Teen Mom 2 on MTV (and the original TM, and most likely TM3)
6.  Awkward on MTV (currently in between seasons)
7. ¬†Snooki & J-Woww on MTV (I’m really ashamed of this one)
8. ¬†Dancing With the Stars on ABC (can’t wait for the new season!)
9.  Extreme Cheapskates on TLC (crazy, crazy people)
10.  My Strange Addiction on TLC (even crazier people)

And two shows that I haven’t watched yet, but I’m sure will be equally guilty pleasures:

1.  Buckwild on MTV
2.  Washington Heights on MTV

So there you have it. And yes, these are ALL currently in my DVR. Whether they’re set to record when the new seasons start or whether they’re currently in there with new episodes to be watched. Of course I watch other shows that are not quite as ridiculous (because there’s no way my husband would watch any of the shows on my list), but those shows wouldn’t be considered my Guilty Pleasures! I love my trashy tv – especially reality tv – and no one can stop me! Hehehe

30 Day “What If” Challenge – Day 7

Day 7 :  What if you could be invisible for a day, what would you do and why?

I have two answers for this one! First, I’d go to all the top secret places like Roswell and inside the White House and Buckingham Palace and who knows where else. Basically every place that ordinary people aren’t allowed to go. Especially Roswell! Doesn’t everyone want to know what big ol’ secret is?! Maybe I’d see aliens!!

Second, I’d go around causing mischief and making people think there’s a ghost! How funny (ok, and kind of mean) would that be to just create mischief – like making inanimate objects move? I can’t think of any super awesome examples at the moment – due to exhaustion – but I think it’d be awesome. Maybe I just watch too many ghost shows?

What would you do if you were invisible for a day?

TGIF.. Except I Have To Work

TGIF! Unfortunately.. I have to return to work tonight after a week off, bleh. But first – I’d like to announce my first time linking up with Tara from Fabulous but Evil for The Nail Files! Thanks again to¬†Amber at MommaInBloom for finding this. (This woman always finds the most fun things ever!).

I already posted a picture of my fun, gorgeous manicure earlier in the week.. but here it is again! I didn’t do them myself, so I honestly don’t even know the name of the polish. But it’s so pretty!

nails

So while I was reading Tara’s post, I noticed she talked about being a Julep Maven. For $20/month you can sign up for a subscription to get 2 nail polishes and a beauty product delivered right to your house! Anddd they’re offering a special that if you enter promo code MAVENINTRO, you’ll get your first box for one penny. Obviously I signed up for a subscription and I am now a Julep Maven! Can’t wait for my first box! Check it out here – it’s so easy! You just answer a few questions to get your beauty profile set up and then you’re ready to go!

And then something else I’d like to recommend.. BIRCHBOX! I’ve been a member of Birchbox for about 1 1/2 years. It’s very similar to Julep – it’s $10/month for a subscription and they send you 4-7 trial sized beauty products. (The products vary from makeup to perfume to nail polish to healthy snacks to hair products – literally, anything!). Again, you answer a few questions to get your beauty profile and then they send you products based on what you answer. You can give reviews on the website to earn extra points – for every 100 pts, you earn $10 to spend. ¬†AND for every $1 you spend, you earn 1 point. I’m not going to lie, some of the products are quite pricey – but I LOVE trying new things and I’ve discovered some awesome products from this website. You can sign up here, if you’re interested.

((No one has paid me to discuss any of these products – but I wish someone would!))

Hope everyone has a fabulous Friday and a wonderful weekend! I have quite a few things going on this weekend so you might not hear from me until Monday – don’t miss me too much! ¬†And last but not least..

30 Day “What If” Challenge

Day 6 :  What if you could be another person for a day, who would you be?

princess

I’d totally be the Duchess of Cambridge – Catherine! Yeah sure, I guess I could say I’d want to be someone that could change the world – but honestly, what girl hasn’t wanted to be a a real-life PRINCESS?! I think she’s absolutely gorgeous and she seems so fun and so¬†normal. In the “royal world,” she was considered a commoner – and now she’s married to a Prince! A future King! How cool is that? I can’t even imagine what her life would be like. Nevermind the fact that I watched the Royal Wedding coverage like it was my job. So yeah, there you go – the end!

A Good Day of Purchases

Well, I noticed I’ve been quite random in my updates lately.. but apparently my life is quite chaotic. So let me begin with this (only because it’s currently the #1 annoyance in my life).. some people think that having curly hair is so cute and EASY. Everyone assumes that you put in a little product and blow dry with a diffuser and BAM, you have luscious, curly perfection.

curls

Not my hair.

Well, I’m going to share something with you all.. something that might scare you a little bit.. the picture below is what REAL curly hair looks like after some product and some blow drying. (I only use about 2-3 hair products a day, but I feel the need to frequently and obsessively alternate them).¬†Yep, this is what I deal with on a daily basis. I get my hair trimmed religiously every 6 weeks. I buy hair products that are way too expensive. Hair products that when I tell my husband how much they cost.. I only tell him 50% of the real cost. Seriously. It’s like Medusa meets Mufasa! After blow drying, I have to let it “settle” for about 10 minutes before I can even make it slightly manageable. Ugh.

products

Only some of my hair products.

hair

Apparently I have a lazy eye in this picture.

Someday I’ll learn to deal with – and successfully manage – this scary mop on my head. Until then.. Ugh.

hair

From Pinterest.

And Realization #2 – I realized my boot addiction has reached a new high.. especially since my mom has been in town visiting. I’ve purchased THREE pairs since Friday. Yep, three pairs. I’m too lazy to go upstairs to take a picture of the third pair.. so I’ll only share two of them with you right now. The first is an awesome pair with¬†tassels¬†from Ninewest that was on CLEARANCE. They’re dark brown and super comfy.

boots1

Ninewest.

The second pair is a camel colored bootie with a little bit of a heel and some buckles. Super comfy and beautiful! I’ve been dying to try this camel trend but I wasn’t really sure of what to pair them with.. apparently anything matches! LOVE! And again, super awesome sale from Rue21. Just because I’m almost 26 doesn’t mean that I can’t find awesome deals at Rue21!

boots2

Rue21.

Next stop in our journey was Costco. Again.. LOVE! Picked up another set of stemless glassware – supposedly they’re meant to be used for wine, but I love using them for just plain ol’ southern sweet tea (you can find the PERFECT recipe right here).

glasses

Wine is always yummy.

We also found an awesome set of ceramic knives by Kitchenaid. It’s a set of 3 knives and a peeler. I didn’t take an actual picture (and again, I’m feeling particularly lazy right now), but I found this picture (below) of the exact same thing on Google images. You can read about ceramic knives here. ¬†I can’t wait to actually use them!

knives

Oooh, sharp!

AND THE BEST PART OF THE DAY.. THRIFT STORE SHOPPING! I found a whole bunch of baskets for about $2 a piece that hopefully become something awesome. I’ll keep you updated!

baskets

Not quite a Longaberger..

Found these ideas on Pinterest.. looks adorable and seems super easy!

baskets2

Not my baskets.

And then.. dun dun dunnnn… ¬†A Keurig machine for $10!!! Neither my husband or I drink coffee, but there’s all sorts of delicious teas and hot cocoa flavors that I’m super excited to try. And since I have an (awesome) habit of buying random vases whenever I see them on clearance.. I found this perfectly sized vase in my storage closet. My little K-cups look adorable.

keurig

I feel fancy!

So there you go.. a crazy, blabbering, excited post of everything random. Which seems to be my habit. But I think I like it that way – because it’s exactly how I actually talk to my family and friends. Enjoy!

And lastly.. I’m not sure about the exact lingo, but let’s put it this way- no one has paid me to talk about any of these products. ¬†(Although, I wish someone would!)
