Catching Up On “Me Time”

I know, I know.. I’ve been MIA for almost a month now. It was much easier to attempt to update this during the winter when I didn’t have quite as much going on. But I’ve been doing SO much for work recently and I’ve been trying to stay outside as much as possible with the dogs on nice days. So my dear sweet blog has been neglected.. which I kind of knew it would. Hopefully I can get myself together and motivated and actually make this blog something real, but it’s been so hard lately!

So this update is going to be a random collection of what’s been going on in my life lately..

1.) My hubby’s aunt has a habit of collecting random items.. and happened to have a very old, very large pool table in her basement. It’s a Brunswick, which is supposedly a really good brand. Needless to say, we have since become the new owners of this pool table and have been working on fixing it up for the last week or so.  We’ve finally cleaned and painted everything, now we just need to wait for the billiards place to finish everything else and come back to put it together! And yes, it’s going in our garage. We both have SUVs and they won’t fit in there together, so we decided to just stop using it as a garage and turn it in a mancave/bar for my hubby. He’s SUPER excited.

All taken apart, ready to be painted.

2.) I’ve been attempting to eat healthier. If you know me, you know I eat junk food and fried foods like there’s no tomorrow. So I’ve decided to try one new vegetable a week! So far I’ve discovered brussel sprouts, chick peas, and kale.  I can officially say I’m obsessed with brussel sprouts! Sauteed in a littleeee butter and lots of lemon pepper, yum yummmm.

3.) April Beauty Boxes! I didn’t take pictures of my Birchbox, so we’ll just have to wait for my May box. I’m going to wait until the Nail Files Friday for my Julep box. So that leaves me with.. Ipsy! April’s box had a pink theme to it. Pink bag, pink blush, pink eyeshadow, pink nail polish.. and then a non-pink hair product. I plan on trying the hair product tomorrow. I’m not a huge fan of pink eyeshadow, but the colors were pretty. Anddd I love the blush, it gives me such a pretty rosy glow 🙂 and while I haven’t used the polish yet, I love the color. As always, I’m not super in loveee with my Ipsy items, but I was definitely happy with the contents.

It all came in pretty boxes too!

4.) I received my first BzzKit! I’m going to make a separate post to give my actual review of it.. but I was super excited to receive my first box in the mail! Who doesn’t love receiving free items?!

5.) As you may know, I’m a nurse on a renal unit. Well, one of my coworkers discovered these awesome pins for our badges and she ordered a whole bunch of them so we can all have one. How cute is this little guy?! This company is super awesome and has pins of almost ANY organ. All nurses should seriously check it out 🙂

The little kidney is the actual pin.

Well, that was random but my doggies are cuddling and I need to start the laundry. Until later!

Friday Nail Files #6

Ok, so quick post because I gotta eat before work tonight.. but I really wanted to link up with Fabulous But Evil and My Vickilicious Life for the Friday Nail Files andddd share the contents of my March Julep Maven box! Unfortunately, I had a bit of a ditzy moment prior to getting my shower and took my nail polish off before taking pictures (oops). AND now I’m updating my phone so I had to be even lazier and borrow the pictures from the Julep website.

So prior to showering I had on this lovelyyy spring color called Simone 🙂 it’s described by Julep as a “soft pastel lilac opalescent shimmer.” I also had a pretty, purple glitter on my ring fingers but again, no photographic evidence 😦 I’m so ready for spring!!

The other color in my Julep box was called Debra. It’s described on the website as a “smoky taupe crème.” It’s not something I would usually wear, BUT I think with a super glossy top coat I could make it work.

Also in my Julep box was a strawberry mint lip balm which smells so yummy and an awesome, awesome, awesome hand cream. I seriously love it! It smells flowery and delicate and makes my hands so soft.

I feel so torn about these Julep boxes! I seriously love all the products I receive but sometimes I wonder if it’s a little expensive at $20/mth since I already receive Birchbox and Ipsy.. I guess we’ll see what happens!

If you have Julep – what colors did you receive this month?!

The Return of ME!

I am SO sorry for being MIA lately. I felt like I was doing so good at blogging – and I was so proud of myself! – but then the weather started spiraling downhill and raining and/or snowing for days and days. And it was so cold and dreary. And work has been absolutely insane the last month. I just felt like I needed a few weeks to relax and cuddle on the couch and have me time. But I think I’m back now and I have so much to talk about! Where oh where do I begin?

First of all, I officially have my own domain name!

http://www.lovelywanderingthoughts.com

snow

We’re getting too much of this lately.

Second, I finally caught up on everyone’s blogs.. and you guys are as awesome as ever!! I tried to like and/or comment on quite a few posts (some of you may have been bombarded with both!) but I just wanted to let ya’ll know I haven’t forgotten about you!

Third, I found this awesome recipe for Lemon Pepper Chicken Divan on Amber’s blog over at Momma In Bloom. It was so creamy and cheesy and just plain yummy! I don’t have an oven-safe skillet, so I just put it in a 9×13 Pyrex pan and it worked fine. I definitely recommend trying it out!

Fourth, my beauty products! I’ve been contemplating cancelling my Birchbox, so I didn’t bother writing anything about February’s box. I should be receiving March’s soon. I’ll discuss my Julep box on Friday (for the Friday Nail Files). And that leads me to.. my first Ipsy bag! I actually received it in February, so I’m not going to go into TONS of details – as my March bag should be arriving soon – buttt you can check out this awesome blog called Pearls and Paris and she goes into much more detail (we received the same bag!) AND gives discount codes for all the items. Unfortunately, I’m a little late to update and the codes expire tomorrow.. so get shopping!

ipsy-february

Quick review Black patent leather makeup bag – looks kind of cheap, but still cute for little items. Eye shadow pallette – the yellow looks a little too bright, but I’m willing to try it. Primer – went on super smooth and made my skin feel really soft. Mascara – I’m very, very faithful to my current mascaras but it defined my lashes nicely and didn’t get clumpy. Lash card – I have tried these things before and was not impressed, so I just threw mine out. BUT the winning item in this bagthe gel eyeliner!! I am not a fan of liquid eyeliner and I always have difficulty finding pencil liners that give me the look I want. I used a small eyeliner brush to apply the gel liner.. and I instantly fell in love! Overall, I was super impressed and the $10/mth price is pretty awesome too 😉

Fifth, my BFF from PA introduced me to this jewelry brand called Alex and Ani. They sell bracelets that are like charm bracelets – except they’re bangles! Their prices vary (some are quite expensive!), but most of them are really affordable. I’ve never been a fan of charm bracelets – they’re a little too gaudy for me – but these bangles are seriously SO cute.

And lastly, I was tagged by the lovely Mrs. Burnett for a Five Things About Me challenge and I figured.. why not?

One – I have a problem with things that don’t match or things that aren’t consistent. A few examples – I have all 4 books in the Twilight series but only one is paperback and it drives me crazy every time I look at it. I color code all my notes at work and if I write something down in blue instead of green on accident, it’ll seriously drive me nuts until I can either rewrite everything or use white-out to fix it. I can’t think of anything else right now (way too sleepy!) but you get the idea. Is this OCD-like behavior?

Two – I have baby fever to the extreme. Like I really, really, really want a baby. Most people are aware of this. (Mom – are you aware of this?!) The hubby is well aware of this and is – thankfully – on the same track as me. So yay 🙂

Three – I don’t feel like the same person I was before my grandparents died. Sometimes I don’t understand how I’m continuing to live my life without them. I know I was running away when I moved to NC. I know I did it because I couldn’t handle living in the same town they lived in. It hurt too much. Thankfully I love our home and the city we live in, but it’s sometimes hard to know I’m here because I wanted to hide from my fears.

Four – I could watch HGTV for hours and hours and hours and not get bored. Seriously! I love watching shows about people house hunting or renovating their houses or selling their houses or anything! If I even watch 2 seconds of a show, I have to watch the whole episode because I need to find out what happens! I get drawn in so easily!

Five – I got a tattoo my senior year in college. It’s a red rose on my right hip bone. Yes, it hurt. No, I don’t regret it. Yes, I still love it every time I look at it. And yes, I sometimes contemplate getting a second one but I don’t know if I have the guts to do it!

Feel free to join in and write 5 things about yourself on your blog – just don’t forget to tag me! 😉

Friday Nail Files #5

((Linking up with Tara from Fabulous But Evil and Vicki from My Vickilicious Life))

So I had off work for several days in a row – woohoo! – and I was able to use some of my gorgeous new nail polish I’ve been receiving lately. Thanks to Julep and Zoya! Unfortunately my nails are no longer pretty because I’m back to work, but I took some pictures of them earlier in the week! And now I get to share them with you guys! 🙂

photo (10)

I used Julep Helen on most of my nails (a smoky pastel lavender creme) and Zoya Tru on my accent nails (a dark purple with orange and red toned glitter). Unfortunately the pastel purple doesn’t photograph really well and it looks more like a tan/beige/neutral shade. But it’s seriously so pretty in person!

Friday Nail Files #4

Even though I only got my first Julep Maven box a few weeks ago.. I already received my second one in the mail! When I received my first Julep box,  I was impressed, but only so so. I wasn’t sure if it was worth it for me to spend $20 every month to receive it. Especially when I pay $10/month for Birchbox and I finally got off the wait list for Ipsy which is another $10/month. Well this month as made me fall in love with Julep. I’m even debating cancelling my Birchbox now! On that note.. it’s time for the Friday Nail Files!

((Linking up with Tara from Fabulous But Evil and Vicki from My Vickilicious Life))

This month’s Julep box is seriously awesome!

photo (6)

And two chocolates!!

1. A pocket sized eyelash curler – for eyelash obsessed people like myself.

2. Oxygen Nail Treatment – they call it “makeup for your nails.” The package says it “creates high gloss coverage and strong, healthy growth.” I already tried it – you can see it in the pictures below on my nails – and I love it. It makes my nails look glossy and it has a very, very light pink color to it. And I’m pretty sure I can get away with wearing it to work! 😉

3. Freedom Polymer Top Coat – The package says it “goes on like a polish, performs like a gel.” I have off a few days next week and I’m super excited to try it! It says you can allow it to dry naturally or you can hold it under a 60-watt bulb for longer-lasting results. I desperately miss getting my gel manicures, so maybe this will satisfy me on my weekends off.

4. And then TWO NAIL POLISHES! The first color is Claudette – described as a “smoky brick red creme” and the second color is Helen – described as a “smoky pastel lavender creme.” Both colors look awesome, but I think I’m the most excited about the lavender color.

I’m seriously falling in love with Julep. I made my beauty profile through them when I signed up and they titled me as being “Classic with a Twist” and so far they’ve been spot on with every single color they send me. (This month is even more awesome than last month!)  ANDDD this is directly from their website – “Julep Nail Color is “4-free” and does not contain formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, toluene, or DBP.”  Sounds perfect to me 🙂

Link up and show off your manicures!

Anddd More Snow..

WELL apparently, my last post about what happened at work was not a fan favorite. C’mon people.. not even one like?! Lol okay, just kidding, anyway..  IT’S SNOWING AGAIN.. AND THERE’S ICE EVERYWHERE. Ughh, I don’t want to complain, but.. wahhh.

((Linking up with Tara from Fabulous but Evil and Vicki from My Vickilicious Life))

I actually have my nails painted.. and I did them myself so they’re not quite as fabulous as before. But I finally got to use one of the awesome new colors I received in my Julep Maven box. This color is called Alfre and the website described it as ” a metropolitan purple metallic.” It’s basically a purple and silver combined – not usually the type of color I use, but it’s super pretty 🙂 and it dried really, really quick (which is awesome).

And since I’ve been slacking in updating my 30 Day Challenge questions.. I decided to throw in a few at the same time. Is that considered cheating?

30 Day “What If” Challenge

Day 14 :  What would you do if you found the wallet of your next-door neighbor who you hated?

Some of these questions are too easy. I’d definitely return it. I’m not THAT person who would keep something just because I didn’t like someone. Even if it was my worst enemy. It’d be even better if the person equally hated me because then I could be the bigger, better person for returning their wallet! Karma!

Day 15 :  What if you could stop a bad habit that you have, what would you stop?

It depends on what you’d consider a bad habit. My worst habit is that I procrastinate. A LOT. If I could stop procrastinating, I would definitely, absolutely do it. But my annoying bad habit is twirling my hair.. and I wouldn’t want to stop doing that! While it might be distracting to some people, it’s calming to me. Some people chew their finger nails (which I stopped in 7th grade).. I just twirl my hair. I do it when I’m stressed, when I’m sleepy, when I’m annoyed, etc. You get the idea. It’s how I calm myself down. 🙂

Day 16 :  What if you found a suitcase full of $1,000,000, what would you do?

Ohh goodness, this is my dream come true! (Well, I’m sure it’s everyone’s dream come true.) But first, I would start jumping up and down and screaming and then call my hubby. Then I’d probably go shopping and buy lots of clothes, shoes, bags, weird kitchen gadgets, and so on. I’d pay off our mortgage and renovate our house. I’d pay off our cars and our student loans. I’d give my momma a few thousand. I don’t think I’d go and buy anything outrageously expensive, except maybe a Hermes Birkin bag. 😉

Feel free to answer any of the above questions!

My Brain Is Exploding!

Oh myyyy, I feel like my brain is about to explode! I woke up today (after only 2 1/2 hours of sleep after working all night) and I felt like my brain was going in 8,000 different directions. There are so many things I want to write about but there’s just not enough time in one day, so I’m doing the only thing I can think of.. I’m going to make a list! I love lists!

Cybill’s List of Future Topics

1. It’s OK Thursday – will be done today!

2. 30 Day “What If” Challenge Day 11 – will be done today!

3. Inside my 1st Julep Maven box – coming tomorrow for The (Friday) Nail Files!

4. Top 10 Favorite Beauty Products – coming soon!

5. My first guest post about my own personal love story – coming soon!

Phew, I hope you guys are ready for all of this! I definitely am! 🙂

It’s OK Thursday #2

Well, I’m technically linking up with Amber from MommaInBloom for It’s OK Thursday (because it’s her idea) but she wrote about a yummy and healthy chicken salad today instead – you should still check it out!

It’s OK..

That I’m never able to cook pork chops correctly. I found this yummy recipe for honey garlic pork chops and I decided to bake it in the oven instead of grilling it. Well, the marinade was super yummy, but the pork chops were tough and dry. I’ve tried making pork chops a million different ways – with only a handful of times actually being successful – but I’m not giving up!

It’s OK..

That I love reading pregnancy blogs and looking at pregnancy and/or baby boards on Pinterest.. even though I’m not pregnant. BUT someday I will be pregnant and I’ll already have tons of awesome ideas in my head. And I’ll already have tons of topics to discuss with my awesome readers 🙂

It’s OK..

That I’m nervous about being a preceptor to a senior nursing student. It’ll be my first time being a preceptor so I feel like I have every reason to be nervous – but I’m sure I’ll feel even better after I take my preceptor class! (I’ll probably end up writing about this more in depth at some point.)

It’s OK..

That I had my time zone set as “South Georgia” and I couldn’t understand why it was putting my time as 3 hours later than the actual time. Apparently, South Georgia is not the same as the actual state of Georgia. I am now correctly listed as being in the NY time zone, phew.

It’s OK..

That even after feeding my dear hubby dry, tough pork chops last night – I’m feeding him Hamburger Helper tonight because I’m too exhausted (aka too lazy) to cook anything. In my defense, I worked 7p-7:30a last night and then had a CPR class from 1-4 today – so I’m running on less than 3 hours of sleep today!

food

Easy AND yummy.

30 Day “What If” Challenge

Day 11 : What if you could hear what someone is thinking for a day, who would you choose?

Hmm I’d probably say my husband. Yes, I understand this could be a good or a bad thing. It could be good because most men (including my hubby) are not always very verbal about what they’re thinking. It’d be interesting to actually hear everything that goes on inside his head! On the negative side – there could be things that I definitely don’t want to hear. Anything from checking out the bartender or cashier or someone else attractive (he would never! hehe) or complaining about some of my terrible dinners (he better not!).

My second choice would be to hear the thoughts of one of my patients at work. Now I think I’m a pretty good nurse and many of my coworkers have told me that I’m a great nurse, so I don’t worry about that. But I have this problem of being quite clumsy.. and I drop things.. and I run into or trip over things. A lot. I’ve been told by many, many patients that I look too young to be a nurse.. so I wonder if they look at me and think “who is this girl who looks like she’s 15 and keeps dropping things and should I trust her to take care of me?”

me5

First day of work as a nurse.

Whose thoughts would you want to hear?

TGIF.. Except I Have To Work

TGIF! Unfortunately.. I have to return to work tonight after a week off, bleh. But first – I’d like to announce my first time linking up with Tara from Fabulous but Evil for The Nail Files! Thanks again to Amber at MommaInBloom for finding this. (This woman always finds the most fun things ever!).

I already posted a picture of my fun, gorgeous manicure earlier in the week.. but here it is again! I didn’t do them myself, so I honestly don’t even know the name of the polish. But it’s so pretty!

nails

So while I was reading Tara’s post, I noticed she talked about being a Julep Maven. For $20/month you can sign up for a subscription to get 2 nail polishes and a beauty product delivered right to your house! Anddd they’re offering a special that if you enter promo code MAVENINTRO, you’ll get your first box for one penny. Obviously I signed up for a subscription and I am now a Julep Maven! Can’t wait for my first box! Check it out here – it’s so easy! You just answer a few questions to get your beauty profile set up and then you’re ready to go!

And then something else I’d like to recommend.. BIRCHBOX! I’ve been a member of Birchbox for about 1 1/2 years. It’s very similar to Julep – it’s $10/month for a subscription and they send you 4-7 trial sized beauty products. (The products vary from makeup to perfume to nail polish to healthy snacks to hair products – literally, anything!). Again, you answer a few questions to get your beauty profile and then they send you products based on what you answer. You can give reviews on the website to earn extra points – for every 100 pts, you earn $10 to spend.  AND for every $1 you spend, you earn 1 point. I’m not going to lie, some of the products are quite pricey – but I LOVE trying new things and I’ve discovered some awesome products from this website. You can sign up here, if you’re interested.

((No one has paid me to discuss any of these products – but I wish someone would!))

Hope everyone has a fabulous Friday and a wonderful weekend! I have quite a few things going on this weekend so you might not hear from me until Monday – don’t miss me too much!  And last but not least..

30 Day “What If” Challenge

Day 6 :  What if you could be another person for a day, who would you be?

princess

I’d totally be the Duchess of Cambridge – Catherine! Yeah sure, I guess I could say I’d want to be someone that could change the world – but honestly, what girl hasn’t wanted to be a a real-life PRINCESS?! I think she’s absolutely gorgeous and she seems so fun and so normal. In the “royal world,” she was considered a commoner – and now she’s married to a Prince! A future King! How cool is that? I can’t even imagine what her life would be like. Nevermind the fact that I watched the Royal Wedding coverage like it was my job. So yeah, there you go – the end!
